Welcome to the variation of unknown section and i will be doing my very first food review ( * pretend to be shock * ) , i'm a food lover ( but it doesn't mean i eat everything * lol * ) , so today the first food review will doing a Nyonya cuisine but to be honest i didn't '' officially '' tried a Nyonya cuisine previously tho , so i can pledge will it be 100 % traditionalist Nyonya favor (since i did try before) but will gave my honest review based on what i taste ,so let get started ~~~
Baba Nyonya is Malaysia heritage , the restaurant that i'm going to review today carries the same name - Baba Nyonya . Baba Nyonya located at Melawati mall ( scroll below the post for full address ) , serving Nyonya cuisine with various choice of traditional Nyonya cuisine food from noodle , veges , small bites to desert even the traditional kuih-muih that's rarely been spot in town this day .
i love they're menu design so much
1. Chicken Ponteng Claypot with rice (set) @ Rm 15. 94
2. Green Curry Chicken Claypot with rice (set) @ Rm 18. 77
3. Nasi Lemak with egg (set) @ Rm 8. 40
How is the food ?
Not bad , it season well without over doing it , the portion of food is fairly good is a exact & sufficient amount for one person ( for the set ) , absolutely finish-able portion without ''overfull'' your tummy . I can't really eat spicy food but the Sambal (chili paste ? correct if i'm wrong) of the Nasi Lemak is not that spicy as it look , i just love the Sambal not spicy but perfect seasoning & favorable taste with the combination of the fragrance of the rice is just irresistible for your taste bud.
Hence , if you're like me who can't really handle spicy food but craving for some Sambal , definitely recommend this to you .If you're not much into Sambal , there also another spicy-free dish for you to try out , Green curry chicken claypot , the green curry strong favour but not over seasoning with the perfectly blended paste , a spoonful of sauce you're able to taste the mixture of spices and fragrance of Santan (coconut milk) light but deep flavour in your mouth .
The good thing :
- There a set for people like me which sometime been distract by the striking image in the menu and barely making a choice on menu .
- the acceptable price ( base on portion of the set i have)
- quick serving ( around 10 minute plus )
The bad thing :
-If you see the image above (nasi lemak) you will see the egg is totally OVER COOKED AND DRY (in a second thought , or it suppose to made it this way i guess..? And NOPE !!!!!! The menu just remind my how dumb am i to think it suppose to overcook & serve that way (*big face palm*)
- the CHICKEN !!!!! the water taste in the every chunk of the chicken !!! Is kind of obvious the chicken is pre-cooked by boiling in in water with quite long period till it kind of absorb the water taste instead of the sauce of the dishes , the dishes is nicely done but the chicken ... is a absolute big NO for me !!!
The environment / interior :
I do like their interior a strong traditional design at the outside but a combination of little modern and traditional in the inside of the restaurant , definitely a comfortable dinning place . (until there a bunch of people gossiping about their colleagues with lofty tone , break the silent *i have no intend of eavesdropping neither to know *lol *
Food rating : 6 / 10
My recommendation out of food i try :
Nasi lemak & the green curry chicken claypot SAUCE .
Will i go for another try ?
Yes , would like to try their curry mee & some of the desert next time ( heard is one of the best seller *realized after doing this review * face palm*) but is a pass for the chicken... =/
